Hamburg - AKKU SYSone of the leading wholesalers for energy solutions, provides an insight into some of its business figures for the first time. The owner-managed group of companies with over 250 employees presents measures for sustainable growth. The expansion of renewable energies could progress much faster.
In 2022, development was dynamised by numerous factors, in particular the turnaround in energy policy - a particular challenge. The strong demand is also due to the ongoing trend towards the use of renewable technologies.
The Group recorded sales of 180 million euros. In Germany, growth of almost 75% was achieved, while the specialist network was expanded to over 20,000 partners. Since its foundation 14 years ago, the company based in the Hamburg metropolitan region has grown by at least 30% on average each year.
The company generated the majority of its turnover with its business customers (80%), with the photovoltaics segment in particular growing in the past year. Goods totalling 3,974 tonnes, consisting of 135,296 parcels and 10,936 pallets, were delivered to customers.
Managing Director Björn Nowosadtko: "We are proud of the results achieved and the growth in the past year. This shows that our customers value our products and services and that we are on the right track to actively drive forward the energy transition."
High investments in growth and employment planned
Compared to the previous year, the number of employees grew by over 50%. Due to the continued strong demand, we are also planning for an increase in personnel requirements in 2023. The AKKU SYS Group is investing here in particular at the sites in Süderholz (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and Halstenbek (Schleswig-Holstein) on the border with Hamburg.
The company is facing significant challenges in the area of logistics. Despite forward-looking planning due to the increased order situation, it is clear that the existing warehouse capacity of around 10,000 m² in Europe needs to be significantly expanded. However, funding has been approved for the doubling of warehouse capacity at the logistics site in Süderholz (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania).
Being able to help shape the energy turnaround appeals to many employees. The company is also highly flexible when it comes to organising its teams. For example, the employer allows all employees to work on a mobile basis for an indefinite period of time, where appropriate, as well as the option to switch from full-time to part-time or vice versa at any time. Currently, e-commerce, engineering and R&D are the segments with the greatest need for personnel. "We all work at AKKU SYS We are working towards the goal of making the energy transition as good and favourable as possible for our fellow human beings. In doing so, we always focus on reconciling family and career," emphasises Katarina Kuechler, authorised signatory.
Reducing bureaucratic hurdles and information deficits
As a wholesaler for energy systems AKKU SYS via a broad network of specialist partners. During the regular surveys, it became clear that there has been a reluctance to buy components for photovoltaic systems since the beginning of 2023. The reasons for this are clear: "On the one hand, the market tends to exaggerate prices during the inflation phase, which is unsettling for private consumers in particular. On the other hand, the books of many partners are very well filled. In times of staff shortages and bureaucratic hurdles, existing orders also want to be processed in order to make room for new projects," says Björn Nowosadtko, Managing Director of AKKU SYS in view of the survey of trade partners, including many solar installers, roofers and electricians from Germany. The company prevents a shortage of goods by maintaining extensive stocks.
The expansion of renewable energies in Germany could progress much faster, according to the survey of the company's own network. Companies from the network of AKKU SYS repeatedly point to the considerable bureaucratic hurdles involved in registering photovoltaic systems with the numerous grid operators in Germany. Almost every grid operator has different requirements.
Another aspect is providing information on building law, fire protection and the insurability of system technology. Uncertainties regarding the statics of the roof or fire protection sometimes lead local authority decision-makers to decide not to equip existing buildings with renewable technology. Often, a lack of professional advice and information is the only reason for reluctance.
Experts from AKKU SYS are currently working constructively with politicians and authorities on such issues in order to drive forward the energy transition with suggestions for improvement from their own network. The results of the company's own survey are also incorporated into specialist presentations at trade fairs, digital events or when advising SMEs and local authorities. Once a year, the company opens its doors at "Solar Day", an event at its site in Halstenbek near Hamburg.
